Success is a new platform for contemporary art. It transforms the abandoned basement of a department store into a multi-gallery exhibition venue. Based in the historic port city of Fremantle, Western Australia, the gallery presents cutting-edge visual art and performance from international and Australian artists.
The fourth exhibition block at Success opens Saturday 3 September with five simultaneous exhibitions across 2,800 square metres of gallery space:
In Gallery One, PASSING / PARADES explores modalities of queer visibility in the work of contemporary visual artists from across the country. Featuring the work of Frances Barrett, Justin Shoulder & Bhenji Ra, Hissy Fit, Claudia Nicholson, Elliott Bryce Foulkes, Torrie Torrie, Liam Colgan, Anna Dunnill, Anna McMahon, and Salote Tawale, and curated by Kate Britton.
In Gallery Two, Benjamin Forster presents an abbreviated retrospective of lesser known works which reveal his relentless enquiry into the social production of knowledge and the elusive location of "meaning".
Across Gallery Three, art and sci-fi combine in the speculative visions of prominent artists Thea Constantino, Joshua Webb, Erin Coates, Kelly Richardson, Patrick Bernatchez, Claire Evans and K.M. Merrell. Curated by Laetitia Wilson, INANITION is an exhibition of video and sculptural art imagining the end of times.
In our dedicated performance space, the SUCCESS SOUNDS series of performance programs continues with a night of live music featuring germ_lock, Gerygone, Feels, and Stina.
Also appearing is BREATHING STATUS, a new exhibition by Tully Arnot and Bronte Jones exploring intimate and precarious relationships with personal technology and homewares.
Success’ art and performance programme will continue throughout 2016.
